Covid-19 has forced us to change our lives in so many ways, both big and small. Many of these changes have been difficult to accept. But in the end, we have adapted and got used to our new ways of living. Part of the new normal has meant that business of all sizes have had to pivot their working models in a very short space of time. This of course has included handmade craft markets of all shapes and sizes.
Markets are a feature of weekends across Australia and many thousands of people attend them, and now miss going to them, regularly. I love all markets and especially art, craft and design markets. I visit them as often as I can, whether I am at home or traveling.
Fortunately, many enterprising market organisers have taken their stallholders online in the form of virtual marketplaces. The beauty of this new type of market is that we can now visit the stalls of makers at markets across Australia that we didn’t previously have access to.
I encourage you to support our markets and continue to shop Australian handmade during what is a very difficult time for small businesses. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favourite online craft markets (both established and new) to make your hop and shop across the country a little easier.
